Kim Riens and Taylor Hesseltine both qualify for State Convention in their respective contests.

FFA Successful at District LSE's

Two Qualify for State Convention

by Tony Jensen

January 21, 2005

On Wednesday, January 19, twenty Freeman FFA members attended the district leadership skills events at Southeast Community College – Beatrice Campus.  Overall, the group had two participants that qualified to participate in the State FFA Convention in March and five other blue ribbon winners.

The two state qualifiers were Taylor Hesseltine in the Junior Public Speaking Contest and Kim Riens in the Employment Skills Contest.  The five blue ribbon winners included Tim Nieveen (Senior Public Speaking and alternate to State Convention), Kyle Dorn (Extemporaneous Speaking and alternate to State Convention), Jaycie Vanderbeek (Creed Speaking), Shanon Fittje (Creed Speaking), and the Junior Parliamentary Procedure team (consisting of Jaycie Vanderbeek, Denae Wolken, Megan Milke, Blake Ebbers, Jerod Nieveen, Erin Dorn, and Jasmine Hagemeier).  Others performing well included Melissa Hottovy, Anna Jurgens, Natalie Lenners, Kyle Schlake, and Matt Nieveen.

“I thought the students did really well today,” said Mr. Jensen.  “With a district of 13 schools and having two state qualifiers and several others very close, the students should be very proud of their performance.”
