FFA Competes at District CDE's

Two Teams to Participate at State Contests in April

The Freeman FFA Chapter traveled to Beatrice to compete in the district one Career Development Events (CDE) on Tuesday, February 28th. At this competition, 30 members competed in 7 different events.

The Nursery & Landscape team of Megan Milke, Taylor Hesseltine, and Erin Dorn received a purple ribbon and 2nd place in the district. This team also qualifies for the State FFA Convention in April. Milke also received 3rd place as an individual.

The AgriScience team of Matt Nieveen, Jamie Buhr, Taylor Fittje, and Bailey Buhr also received 2nd place and a purple ribbon. They will also go on and compete at the State FFA Convention.

The Envirothon team of Shanon Fittje, Katie Schoen, Jaycie Vanderbeek, and Trenton Buss got 5th place in our district. This team takes tests in different areas of natural resources such as Wildlife, Policy, Range, Forestry, Soils, and Aquatics.

The Floriculture team of Jordan Jurgens, Ashley Weyers, Brent Heble, and Michelle Horstman received sixth place. This team takes a general knowledge exam, identifies different flowers, and creates their own bud vase.

The Livestock Management team of Andy Stanley, Holly Marker, Brooke Wallman, Jodeen Rademacher, Jace Harms, and Brittany Oltman received eighth place. They took tests relating to the effective management of sheep, swine, beef, equine, and poultry species.

The Meats team of Josh Rapp, Tyler Buss, and Heath Huenink received eighth place. This team identifies different beef, pork, and sheep cuts of meat.

Jerod Nieveen, Max Weber, Blake Ebbers, and Denae Wolken participated in the Junior Livestock Judging competition. They ranked classes of four beef, swine, and sheep animals, as well as completed a cull-keep class. Results of the Jr. Livestock Judging competition have not been posted at this time.
