Some students also participated in different contests. In the Nursery & Landscape contests, there were 38 different teams and 148 individuals at the State Contest. The team of Taylor Hesseltine, Erin Dorn, Megan Milke, and Jasmine Hagemeier placed third in the state in this contest. Dorn and Hesseltine received purples and placed 10th and 14th, respectively, while Hagemeier and Milke received blue ribbons. This is the first time a team has placed in the top 3 in the Nursery and Landscape contest.
In the Ag Demo Leadership Skills Event, the Freeman FFA team of Jasmine Hagemeier, Jerod Nieveen, and Taylor Hesseltine presented their demonstration on taking grapes "From Vine to Wine". They received a gold emblem, which puts them in the top 7 demonstrations in the State. This is also the first gold emblem in the ag demonstration contest in Freeman FFA history.
Erin Dorn also presented a speech about avian influenza as part of the Jr. Public Speaking Contest. She received a silver pin, which puts her speech in the top 16 in the State.
The Agriscience team of Jamie Buhr, Bailey Buhr, Matt Nieveen, and Dylan Lempka also competed at State FFA Convention. They took an online test, prepared a career report, and dissected a flower.
The Junior High Quiz Bowl team of Kyle Schlake, Natalie Lenners, Evan Buss, and Nathan Milke were finalists in the quiz bowl competition. To be a finalist, you have to be in the top ten teams in the event.
Megan Milke represented the Freeman FFA Chapter as a member of the State FFA Chorus. She had a rehearsal on Wednesday night and performed at both of the evening sessions on Thursday and Friday.
"We had a great convention. Students who competed did very well, and I am proud of their efforts," said Mr. Jensen. "I believe that every student that participated saw what they can achieve in the FFA."
