FFA Members Harvest Grapes at Local Vineyard

by Tony Jensen

August 27, 2006

Seventeen Freeman FFA members traveled to Cedar Ridge Vineyards, owned by Karl and Sheryl Hesseltine, of rural Adams to help in harvesting grapes on Saturday, August 26th. The FFA members met at the vineyard at 6:15 a.m., grabbed a bucket to collect the grapes, and headed down to the vineyards. All of the grapes to be picked on this day were harvested by 11:45 a.m. Cedar Ridge Vineyards will be paying the FFA Chapter for their work, and this will serve as part of the FFA's Labor Auction this year.

Members harvesting the grapes this year were Jodeen Rademacher, Jamie Buhr, Megan Milke, Nathan Milke, Kyle Schlake, Anna Jurgens, Taylor Hesseltine, Natalie Lenners, Max Weber, Jerod Nieveen, Trenton Buss, Ryan Busboom, Jaycie Vanderbeek, Jenna Vanderbeek, Blake Ebbers, Denae Wolken, and Bailey Buhr.

"This event worked well for the vineyard and FFA chapter," said Mr. Jensen, Freeman FFA advisor. "Cedar Ridge Vineyards always needs the manual labor for harvest, and we were pleased to help out. It was also a good educational experience for our students."
