When the lights are dimmed and hush descends upon an audience of more than 49,000 at the world’s largest annual youth convention this October, three local FFA members will share the spotlight in a musical performance that will inspire the crowd and provide memories to last a lifetime.
Stephanie Dorn, daughter of Leon and Jeanette Dorn, and Jerod Nieveen, son of Jay and Teri Nieveen, have both been accepted into the National FFA Band. Joining them will be Megan Milke, daughter of Pat and Michelle Milke, who will be performing with the National FFA Choir for the second time. The 80-member band and 85-member choir will be performing at various events throughout the organization’s national convention, October 25-28 in Indianapolis, Indiana.
FFA Band and Choir members are nominated by their state associations and selected from hundreds of applicants. The young musicians will arrive four day before the convention to rehearse.
“Considering there are 7,210 chapters, over 490,000 FFA members, and only 165 of the hundreds of applicants get selected, it is a large honor for us to have three National Band and Choir members,” Mr. Jensen, Freeman FFA advisor said. “A big thank you to those music instructors who have helped these students go through the application process and work with these students on a daily basis.”
