Freeman Competes at District Career Development Events

Three Teams Qualify for State Competition

Twenty eight Freeman FFA members traveled to Southeast Community College – Beatrice on February 21st to participate in district Career Development Events (CDE’s).  From these events, three teams qualified for State Convention CDE’s at the State FFA Convention on March 28-30th in Lincoln.

 

The Nursery & Landscape team of Megan Milke, Taylor Hesseltine, Heather Holman, and Jasmine Hagemeier received second, which qualifies them for the state competition.  Milke received 4th place, Hesseltine 5th place, Holman 6th place, Hagemeier 8th place, and Beth Stanley placed 10th

 

The Junior Livestock Judging team of Kyle Schlake, Dylan Lempka, Matt Nieveen, and Phillip Schoen placed 3rd out of 29 teams and just one point behind the 2nd place team.  Out of 101 total participants in the event in our district, Schlake placed 1st, Lempka 18th, Nieveen 24th, and Schoen 53rd.  This team will also be participating at the state competition in March.

 

The Senior Livestock Judging team of Blake Ebbers, Erin Dorn, Jerod Nieveen, and Max Weber placed 5th place in our district.  Ebbers placed 14th, Dorn 17th, Nieveen 22nd, Katie Schoen in 26th, and Weber in 28th.  The team of Ebbers, Dorn, Nieveen, and Schoen will represent Freeman at the Senior Livestock Judging Competition at State FFA Convention.

 

The AgriScience team of Kristen Andersen, Nathan Milke, Eric Rapp, and Evan Buss received 5th place out of 17 teams and a blue ribbon.  Out of 70 individuals, Buss placed 3rd, Andersen 6th, Milke 28th, Banks 41st, and Marker 44th.  The team of Buss, Andersen, Milke, and Banks will compete at the State FFA Convention.

 

The Meats Identification team of Kyle Schlake, Josh Rapp, Ryan Busboom, and Trenton Buss got 6th place.  Schlake placed 13th, Rapp 21st, Busboom 25th, and Buss 26th.

 

“We had a really good day,” said Mr. Jensen, Freeman FFA advisor.  “The students competed very well in a difficult district and now, we have to start looking ahead to the end of March and State FFA Convention”.
