The Freeman High School agriculture education program received more than 60 horticultural books and numerous magazines from Dr. Jay Fitzgerald, retiring horticulture professor at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Topics of the books and magazines include soils, plant selection, insects and pests, fertilizers and herbicides, and landscape design, among many others.
"There is a wide variety of books and if you are interested in agronomy or horticulture, there is a book for you," said Mr. Jensen, Freeman agriculture education instructor. "Also, if you travel to various parts of the U.S., there is a wide selection of books for learning about plants that grow in different regions."
The books are now located in the new agriculture classroom and are available to students and the public. To check out the selection or check-out a book, please make arrangements with Mr. Jensen.
"The agriculture education program is very appreciative of Dr. Fitzgerald and all he has done for this program the past few years," said Mr. Jensen. "This donation is just an example of the dedication Dr. Fitzgerald has shown to agriculture and horticulture programs throughout the state. Upon his retirement, he will be missed by many educators in Nebraska."
