The Freeman Speech Team competed late in the afternoon and into the evening to place eleven events in finals with seven events qualifying for state on the way to earning the championship plaque on Monday, March 10 in a tight contest held at Deshler. Tri-County was runner-up followed by Thayer Central and Deshler.

Stephanie Reed who is the District Serious Prose Champion also qualified in Poetry.

Other District Champions were Max Weber in Extemporaneous and Kristen Andersen in Persuasive

Megan Milke in a tie with Stephanie Reed for first in Serious Prose will advance on to compete at state. Other competitors placing second and going to state are Jerod Nieveen in Extemporaneous and Anna Jurgens in Humorous Prose.

Finishing third were Ashley Ayres in Poetry and Denae Wolken, Erin Dorn, Max Weber, Jerod Nieveen, and Anna Jurgens in Oral Interpretation of Drama. Fourth place medals were awarded to Erin Dorn in Persuasive and Taylor Hesseltine and Jamie Buhr in Duet Acting.

Earning superiors and adding to the team points were: Erin Dorn, Jerod Nieveen, Max Weber, Stephanie Reed, and Anna Jurgens in two events each plus Taylor Hesseltine, Megan Milke, Denae Wolken, Jamie Buhr, Kristen Andersen, and Ashley Ayres. Rounding out the points were Holly Marker, Matt Nieveen, and Anna Dorn.

Once again the team had a wonderful fan club which drove the extra miles and took off work to support the team in this district competition.  Teri Nieveen and Nathan Dorn have been invaluable this season as “assistants” to the team with their coaching, encouragement, treats, and photography.
