A mobile simulator lab is planned to be at Freeman on Friday, April 18th. The lab is made possible through a $1.9 million community-based job training grant that Central Community College-Hastings and Mid-Plains Community College received from the U.S. Department of Labor.
"The grant is designed to increase awareness of career opportunities in the transportation field and to provide training workshops," said Dave Engel, coordinator and trainer for the CCC-Hastings community-based job training project.
The Simulator Mobile Lab has a Truck Driving Simulator and a Railroad Simulator on-board. The truck driving simulator can set-up all kinds of driving scenarios such as up hill mountain driving, down hill driving, icy roads, fog, high winds, nighttime driving, flat tires, just to name a few. The simulator is used to promote career awareness and improve skills of CDL-Holders.
The Railroad Simulator is a small desk top unit which simulates the controls of an actual Locomotive. It is used for career awareness and it shows you how to back up hook up to train cars, take the cars to a location, refueling, changing tracks, mountain driving and many more activities.
