Track Teams Open Their Season At Pioneer Conference Indoor

The Freeman boys and girls track teams opened their season last week by competing in the Pioneer Conference Indoor Track Meet held at Doane College in Crete. Pawnee City claimed both the boys and the girls’ title for the meet. In the girls division, Pawnee City edged out HTRS by two points, 64-62, and Sterling finished third with 59 points. The Freeman girls had four athletes competing in the meet and finished sixth out of twelve teams.
Denae Wolken was a double gold winner. She won the 1600 meter run with a time of 6:24.0 and she won the 3200 meter run in a time of 13:56.1. Megan Milke brought home three medals. She was second in the 400 meter run with a time of 67.1, fourth in the 200 meter dash with a time of 29.4, and sixth in the 55 meter dash with a time of 8.0.
In the boys division, Pawnee City dominated over second place Sterling 124 points to 60 points. HTRS finished the boys division in third with 57 points. Jerod Nieveen scored Freeman’s two points by placing 5th in the triple jump with a leap of 37’ 1.75”.
The next action for the Falcons will be on Thursday, March 27th when they compete in the Thayer Central Invitational held at Hebron. Field events will start at 11:00 and running events will begin at 1:00 with no prelims being held in any of the events.
