Bees Visit Freeman Public Schools

A package of bees made its way to the Freeman ag room on the afternoon of Friday, April 18th. Then, the 3rd through 6th grade classes, as well as the After School Program students visited Mr. Jensen to see what a package of bees looked like. When there, the group talked about differences in worker, drone, and queen bees, what to do to start a package of bees in a hive, and other important information about beekeeping. Following this, the group had time to ask questions and there were plenty.
"Anytime you give students the opportunity to bring concepts learned in class to real life, it is a good experience for students," said Mr. Jensen, agriculture education instructor.
Following these visits, the package of bees was placed in a hive on Friday evening. On Sunday, April 20th, the queen was released, and the worker bees are currently busy grooming the queen and collecting sugar syrup to make comb for the brood.
