Falcons Compete in the Freeman Invite

The Falcon track team hosted the Freeman Invite at Doane College in Crete, NE. Elmwood-Murdock won the girls division with 93 points. Johnson County Central and Clay Center tied for second place with 73 points and Diller-Odell finished fourth with 54.5 points. The Lady Falcons finished sixth in the thirteen team invite with 41 points. Kate Wellensiek from Johnson County Central broke her own meet record in the Pole Vault. She improved her jump three inches over last year to set the new record at 9' 3".
Denae Wolken was a double winner in both the 800 meter run and the 1600 meter run. She ran a 2:29.2 in the 800 and set a personal record for this year in the 1600 with a time of 5:46.9. The Falcons picked up two places in the 100 meter dash. Megan Milke finished fifth in a time of 13.7 and Sara Marker finished sixth in a time of 14.1. Megan Milke also placed 2nd in the 400 meter dash with a time of 65.3. The Lady Falcons 1600 meter relay team ran to a first place finish with their best time of the year, 4:27.5. Members of the relay team are Denae Wolken, Jasmine Hagemeier, Bailey Buhr, and Megan Milke.
Lincoln Parkview edged out Elmwood-Murdock 84 to 80 points to take the boys team title and Deshler finished in third with 60 points. The Freeman boys finished in 9th place with 32 points. Jens Scholl of Deshler set two new meet records. His time of 1:59.8 in the 800 meters broke the old meet record set in 1989 by Jason Coorts with a time of 2:02.4. Jens also broke the 1600 meter run record of 4:38.3 that was set in 1977 by Marty Hughes. Jens set the new record at 4:33.4.
The Falcons were led by Ryan Busboom who placed in three individual events. Ryan was second in the Long Jump with a leap of 19' 5.25", was third in the 200 meter dash with a time of 24.5, and was 6th in shot put with a throw of 41' 7". Jerod Nieveen placed second in the triple jump with a jump of 38' 5.5". The Falcons also placed two relays at the Invite. The 400 meter relay team of Jerod Nieveen, Ryan Busboom, Matt Nieveen, and Cody O'Grady placed second in a time of 47.1. Picking up a sixth place finish in a time of 9:30.4 was the 3200 meter relay team consisting of Dillon Wallman, Jon Gronewold, Jordan Pella, and Phillip Schoen.
The Falcon track teams will travel to Johnson County Central next Thursday to compete in the Class C-2 District Track Meet. Field events will begin at 9:30 a.m. with running events to begin at approximately 12:00 p.m.
