Freeman Junior High Boys Compete in Pioneer Conference

Brandert wins the 300 Meter Hurdles at the Pioneer Conference Junior High Track Meet

The Freeman junior high boys took one individual first place and set a new school record in a relay at the Pioneer Conference junior high track meet held in Pawnee City on Saturday, May 3, 2008.
Chandler competed very well in the 300 meter hurdles to finish first with a time of 48.0 seconds. Chandler’s record is only two tenths of a second behind the school record set by the hurdling legend, Kurt Little, in 2000.
The 1600 meter relay team of Brandon Sedlacek, Mitchell Hesseltine, Kyle Schoen, and Kellen Unvert set a new school record with a time of 4:21.0. This erased the old record of 4:24.2 set in 2005 by Elliott Mencl, Cody O’Grady, Jon Gronewold, and Ryan Busboom. The 1600 meter relay finished fourth.
Kellen Unvert claimed two individual ribbons with a time of 28.2 to finish fifth in the 200 meter dash. Kellen also finished second in the shot put with a heave of 37’ 9”. Kyle Schoen ran a scorching 19.8 seconds to finish third in the 110 meter hurdles. Dallas Ashelford also collected a ribbon by finishing fourth in the 300 meter hurdles with a time of 52.4. The 400 meter relay team of Kellen Unvert, Dallas Ashelford, Brandon Sedlacek, and Chandler Brandert finished fifth with a time of 55.1.
Overall, Freeman finished seventh in the overall standings of the Pioneer Conference Junior High Track Meet. Pawnee City won the meet with Sterling finishing second. Freeman scored 36 points—just 10 points behind Johnson-Brock, the third place winner.
