Wrestlers Capture Four Medals at North Bend

Three golds and one silver

December 14, 2008

The Freeman wrestling team traveled Saturday to North Bend to compete in a ten-team tournament.  Freeman was led with four medalists, which helped the team place sixth with 89 team points.  Out of the four medals, three were gold and one was silver.  Winning gold medals were Matt Nieveen (130), Kevin Weyers (171), and Evan Buss (285).  Chandler Brandert (135) earned the silver medal.  Nieveen received an injury default in the semifinals, and won the other two matches with pins.  Kevin Weyers won all three matches with pins.  Evan Buss received a bye in the first round and won both matches with pins.  Brandert went 2-1 winning both of his matches with pins.

Chase Heble (125), Alex Richardson (130), and Mitch Hesseltine (152) all won one match with a decision.

“Freeman did an excellent job at this meet,” stated Coach Troxel.  “This was a tough meet with many good teams, and the wrestlers competed at a high-level of intensity.  I thought it was a great day when the entire team won at least one match along with having four medalist.”

Freeman will be traveling to Cook on Saturday, December 20th to compete in the Johnson County Central Invite.  This will be the last tournament before the Christmas break.
