Kindergarten Has a Feast
December 01, 2009
What are you thankful for? Each Kindergartner in Mrs. Marker and Mrs. Nieveen’s class were given an opportunity to tell just that at the annual Freeman Kindergarten Thanksgiving Feast. No one seemed to have a difficult time coming up with statements of wonderful things they were thankful for. “I am thankful for my family.” “I am thankful for my cats.” “I am thankful for food.” and many more were heard throughout Mrs. Marker’s room where the feast was held. Mrs. Marker and Mrs. Nieveen were also thankful for children who were so helpful and polite during the feast and the beautiful weather we’ve had.
Prior to the feast the classes studied the hardships Pilgrims faced so many years ago and how the Native Americans became their friends and helped them through some very difficult times. They read stories of the first Thanksgiving as the Pilgrims wished to thank their friends for their generosity and help by inviting them to a feast of wild meat, corn, and vegetables as well as fun games played throughout the three days of the feast. Students in Mrs. Nieveen’s class prepared stew and cornbread, while Mrs. Marker’s class made pumpkin pie and succotash. Costumes were made as Mrs. Nieveen’s class came to the feast as Pilgrims and Mrs. Marker’s class were Native Americans.
Mrs. Marker and Mrs. Nieveen are thankful for kind, caring, sharing students, as well a wonderful school providing great learning opportunities for all. We hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving!
