The Freeman junior high girls’ basketball team traveled to Johnson for a difficult rematch against the Johnson-Brock Eagles.  The A-team got off to a slow start and found themselves trailing 6-2 after the first period.  The Falcons seemed to get things on track in the second quarter, however, and forged ahead to a 13-9 halftime lead.  The Falcons continued to roll in the third a built a 23-10 lead.  That lead almost wasn’t big enough as the Eagles came roaring back, limiting the Falcons to two points while scoring ten before the clock ran out on them.  Freeman pulled out the 25-20 victory.

The Falcons were led by Chelsea Rapp with eight.  Cassidy Mason, Claire Richardson, Courtney Ideus, and Riley Dorn each added four to a balance Freeman attack.  Alaina Huls contributed a free throw.  Sarah Wenzl paced the Eagles with six.

In B-team action, the Falcons were tied after the first period at four.  Freeman built a five point lead by outscoring JB 8-3 in the second to take a 12-7 halftime advantage.  Ten third quarter points while limiting Johnson-Brock to three gave Freeman a 26-10 lead.  JB outscored the Falcons by one in the fourth quarter but it wasn’t enough as Freeman won 26-15.  Jessica Larkins led Freeman with 12 points.  Taylor Sugden, Olivia Alberts, and Alaina Huls had four each.  Marissa Wusk added a field goal.  Brooklyn Westenburg and Natosha Davis had seven each for the Eagles.

Freeman Junior High Girls Basketball Freeman at Sterling Wednesday, February 11, 2010
It went down to the wire, but in the end, the Freeman junior high girls’ basketball team racked up their eighth win of the season against a feisty group of Sterling Jets.

Freeman travelled to the Jet gym on Wednesday, February 10, 2010.  It didn’t take long for the Jets to put the Falcons in a 5-2 hole.  However, Freeman bounced back to take a 10-5 lead after the first period.  The Falcons continued to cruise to a 16-7 halftime lead and extended that to a 23-13 score after three.  The fourth quarter, however, belonged to the Jets.  Sterling came roaring back and pulled within one point with three seconds left when Marissa Haynes wisely stepped out of bounds and held the ball until time expired.  The Falcons pulled out a 27-26 victory.

Riley Dorn collected eight points to lead Freeman.  Cassidy Mason played an aggressive game and scored seven.  Katie Meyer added six points.  Chelsea Rapp had four points and Marissa Haynes tossed In a field goal.  Becky Williams led Sterling with ten.

The B-team game was a little less stressful for the Falcon fans, although Freeman did have to overcome the hot hand of Brielle Salberg.  The Falcons pounded out an 11-2 first quarter lead. By the half, they were ahead 25-6.  The Jets came back a little in the third, but Freeman still held a 29-14 edge.  Freeman regained momentum in the final period to stake a 35-17 win.
