The Freeman junior high girls basketball team completed an undefeated season by registering a win over Diller-Odell in the Freeman gym on Wednesday, February 17, 2010.  The Falcons fell behind early in the game, but were still able to claim a 9-3 lead after the first quarter.  Freeman built a healthy lead midway through the second period, only to watch as the Griffins came clawing back to make it 15-12 in favor of Freeman.  A strong third period kept Freeman top 29-20.  The Griffins outscored Freeman 13-12 in the last quarter, but the Falcons hung on to win 41-35.  Chelsea Rapp and Katie Meyer each scored 10 to lead Freeman.  Riley Dorn was right behind them with nine.  Marissa Haynes had eight and Cassidy Mason put in four.  Delanie Vitosh led the Griffins with 17.
In B-team action, Freeman pounded its way to an 11-2 first quarter lead.  They continued to score in the second and after two periods; Freeman was up 17-4.  Due to bus departure times, the third period was the final period, but Freeman had a 22-8 lead at that point.  Alaina Huls led Freeman with seven points.  Jessica Larkins tallied six.  Taylor Sugden had five, and Hannah Neil scored four.  Kendra Barnts was the leading scorer for Diller-Odell with four.
The A-team ran up against some tough competition this year, but always managed to come out on top through nine contests.  The B-team was also highly successful losing only a two point game to Johnson County Central to finish 6-1.  
The teams were led by seven eighth graders:  Megan Matthies, Claire Richardson, Kaylyn Parde, Chelsea Rapp, Meghan Schellpeper, Erin McFee, and Courtney Ideus.  Seventh graders who contributed to this years’ success include:  Cassidy Mason, Katie Meyer, Riley Dorn, Marissa Haynes, Taylor Sugden, Alaina Huls, Jessica Larkins, Olivia Alberts, Hannah Neil, Angela Schellpeper, Marissa Wusk, Taylor Heier, Emily Osterhaus, and Carley Remmers.
