A Busy February

by Teri Nieveen

February 26, 2010

A Busy February By Teri Nieveen February may be a short month, but it was full of activities for the Kindergarten classes at Freeman. We were finally able to celebrate 100 days of school, something we normally do in January. Students brought in collections of 100 items to count and tell about. Both classes had to decide which of five jars held 100 items. After getting into groups and counting the jars, we discovered each jar had 100 items, but due to the size of the items, the fullness of the jars varied. Various snacks of 100 were combined for our 100’s Stew. On February 12, our high school buddies came in and helped the students make Valentine cards for their parents. Each student could put on lipstick and give their card a kiss, thus giving their parents a “kiss” for Valentines Day. It was an activity the students enjoyed. The month ended with the reading of different versions of “The Little Red Hen” and “Stone Soup”. Mrs. Marcy Marker’s class made bread and Mrs.Teri Nieveen’s class made Stone Soup. We joined together for a Stone Soup party and included our high school buddies. Yes, there really were stones in the soup, but we did not eat them. However, the soup itself was a hit, as was the bread. It was a great way to bring February to a close.
