On Saturday, August 28, at the Nebraska State Fair in Grand Island, Jeffrey Wallman from Gage County attended the 2010 Nebraska State 4-H Public Speaking Contest. The contest was located in the 4-H and FFA Exhibition Hall, and Jeffrey was one of 15 contestants from across the state to deliver his speech. At the Public Speaking Contest, Jeffrey received first place in the speech contest. This is the highest honor that a 4-Her can receive in public speaking, and the award included an initial $250 scholarship to UNL for participating in the contest, as well as a 1st-place $500 scholarship, also to UNL plus a $50 cash award. Jeffrey is an 9-year 4-H member of Gage County, and he has been involved in public speaking for eight years. He is a member of the Nemaha Valley 4-H Club and Country Club 4-H Club. In November, Jeffrey will attend the 2010 National 4-H Congress in Atlanta, Georgia as a Nebraska delegate in the area of Communication/Expressive Arts, which encompasses public speaking. Jeffrey will also return to the State Public Speaking contest next year to emcee for the event.
