Football Team Improves to 3-0

Freeman 48, Lewiston 0

September 21, 2008

The Freeman football team improves to 3-0 after defeating the Lewiston Tigers on Friday evening.  This was the second consecutive shutout for the Falcons.

Freeman was able to get two touchdowns in the first quarter.  Elliott Mencl rushed for a pair of touchdowns of 9 and 29 yards.

The second quarter found an explosion of points as Freeman scored an additional 35 points.  Ryan Busboom rushed for 15 yards for the first touchdown of the quarter.  Busboom then found open receiver, Matt Nieveen, for a 39-yard touchdown pass.  Jordan Pella added the third touchdown by rushing for 34 yards.  Busboom and Taylor MacKichan had the fourth touchdown with a pass of 6 yards.  The final touchdown came 11 seconds later when MacKichan returned a Lewiston fumble for 10-yards.

There was no scoring in the third or fourth quarter of the game.

“I thought we had a slow first and third quarter,” stated Coach Troxel.  I really saw improvement in the second and fourth quarter.  Both the varsity and junior varsity played well at times, but there is room for improvement.  We need to get four good quarters next week as the team travels to Deshler.”

Coach Andreasen stated, “The defense played excellent tonight by forcing turnovers and holding their second opponent to zero points.  The offense needs to get some of the wrinkles ironed out before next week’s game.”

Freeman will travel to Deshler on Friday, September 26 for a 7:00 PM game.  This will be the first out of five district games for Freeman.
