Football Teams Improves to 7-0

Freeman 61, Pawnee City 26

The Freeman Falcons increased their record to 7-0 after defeating the Pawnee City Indians on Friday evening.  The final score for the game was 61-26.  The Falcons gained momentum early, scoring four times in the first quarter.  The initial score came with Freeman scoring on their first offensive play.  Ryan Busboom threw a 49-yard touchdown pass to Taylor MacKichan.  Busboom then had a long touchdown run of 39 yards for the second score.  Busboom and MacKichan had another touchdown completion/recpetion of 29 yards.  The final score came on the last second of the quarter where Kevin Weyers and teammates recorded a team safety.  The score after the first quarter was Freeman 22, Pawnee City 0.

The second quarter found eight total touchdowns for both teams.  Freeman scored five toucdowns while Pawnee City scoring three.  Jordan Pella and Elliott Mencl scored touchdowns with both 3-yard runs.  Pawnee City got on the scoreboard with a 57-yard touchdown pass.  The combination of Busboom and MacKichan hooked up for a third time for a 7-yard Freeman touchdown.  Pawnee City was able to return the next kickoff for a 78-yard touchdown.  Mencl answered the score with a 2-yard touchdown run, and the quarter ended with Pawnee City scoring on a 65-yard touchdown rush.  The score at half-time was Freeman 47, Pawnee City 18. 

The only points in the third quarter came from two touchdowns by Freeman.  Pella had a 1-yard touchdown run, and Matt Nieveen rushed for a 5-yard touchdown.  The quarter ended with a score of Freeman 61, Pawnee City 18.

Pawnee City added two more scores in the fourth quarter with a team safety, and a fumble recovery in the end zone.  The final score was Freeman 61, Pawnee City 26.

“I thought the line did a terrific job tonight,” stated Coach Troxel.  “Both Mencl and Busboom rushed for over 100 yards.  Elliott Mencl has now rushed for over 1,000 yards in seven games.  He becomes the first Freeman football player to accomplish this goal.  Elliott rushing for over a 1,000 yards is a tremendous accomplishment, not just for Elliott, but for the whole team”.

Freeman will travel to Daykin to take on the Meridian Mustangs on Friday evening at 7:00 PM for the district championship.
