FFA Competes at District LSE's

by Tony Jensen

January 21, 2010

The Freeman FFA Chapter attended the district Leadership Skills Events at Southeast Community College-Beatrice campus on January 19th.  Kristen Andersen, who gave a speech over the Emerald Ash Borer, placed first in Senior Public Speaking and qualified for the State FFA Convention in April.

Blake Lenners, who gave a speech over wind energy, placed third, received a blue ribbon, and is an alternate to State FFA Convention.

Jeffrey Wallman and Kylie Trobee both participated in the Creed Speaking event and both received blue ribbons.

Ashley Ayres and Kyle Schlake both participated in the Job Interview event, where they complete a job application, cover letter, and resume; complete an interview; and write a follow-up letter to the interview.  Both received blue ribbons.

The freshmen junior parliamentary procedure team of Lindsay Hottovy, Morgan Lenners, Austin Ruskamp, Joel Gronewold, Kylie Trobee, Jeffrey Wallman, and Blake Lenners received a blue ribbon.

The junior high quiz bowl teams received 2nd and 4th place.  The quiz bowl members are Logan Eisenbarth, Scott Adams, Jacob Buhr, Trevor Klein, Brett Oltman, Carley Remmers, Matt Ideus, and Jacob Larmeu.

“Overall, it was a good day.  Our district is very competitive, and to receive all blues with one state qualifier is a successful day,” said Mr. Jensen, FFA advisor.  “The quiz bowl students did a good job as well and we will have them compete at state in April.”
