January 29, 2010

The Freeman Falcons hosted their own tournament on Thursday, January 28, with 11-teams competing.  The Falcons were able to get eight medalists, which placed the team second overall with a score of 141.50.

The Falcons had one first place finishers.  Evan Buss (215) was in a three-man round robin, and won both of his matches by pins.

Freeman had four silver medal winners.  Austin Ruskamp (140) went 2-1 and won one match by pin and the other by major decision.  Chandler Brandert (145) went 3-1 and won all three matches by pin.  Mitch Hesseltine (152) went 2-1 and won one match by pin and the other by tech fall.  Kevin Weyers (171) went 2-1 and won both matches by pin.

Freeman had two wrestlers place third.  Brian Nieveen (103) went 3-1 and recorded three pins.  Chase Heble (130) also went 3-1 and won two matches by pin and one by decision.

Joel Gronewold (112) rounded out the medalist for Freeman by placing fourth.  He went 2-2 and recorded two pins.

Coach Troxel stated, “I thought the wrestlers did an excellent job this evening.  We had eight out of the twelve wrestlers earn medals, and the other athletes wrestled well and picked up some key wins for us”.

“I would also like to thank the table help, parents, and the cheerleaders for doing an excellent job assisting with the meet.  It was their efforts and hard work that made the meet run smoothly.”

The Falcons will compete at Dorchester on Thursday, February 4 for the annual Turkey Creek Invite.  The meet will start at 4:00 (the Freeman Calendar states a 3:00 start time, which is incorrect).
