Speechers Sixth at MUDECAS

Sixteen members of the Freeman Speech Team attended their first meet of the season at MUDECAS on Saturday, January 30 held at SCC Beatrice. The team members entered seventeen events and placed in five events.
Those placing in finals were Shelby Koenig first in Persuasive, Kristen Andersen third in Persuasive, Anna Jurgens third in Humorous Prose, Ashley Yates fourth in Entertainment, and Blake Lenners fifth in Informative. Medals were awarded to the top six in each event.
The team placed sixth out of fifteen teams participating in this contest. The top finishers were NC Lourdes, HTRS, Bruning-Davenport, Meridian, and Johnson-Brock.
Mrs. Jobman, coach for the Freeman Speechers was very proud of the superior and excellent ratings of the competitors. The team was a bit depleted by illness and team members stepped up and filled in for team events. Freshmen non-competitors for this meet also attended to support the team.
We have an exciting season ahead with a record number of new comers to the team. Speechers out for the first time are Wendy Rogers, Andy Buhr, Kendall Renken, Katie Veskrna, Katherine Weber, Anna Harder, Lindsay Hottovy, Shannon Koenig, Blake Lenners, Sarah Page, Gerrit VanEngen, and Jeff Wallman. The Speechers also welcome Madeline Clark to the team.
The next meet is the Syracuse Speech Mardi Gras on Saturday, February 6.
