by Becky Jobman

February 07, 2010

The Freeman Speech Team had twenty-seven members compete in twenty-five events at the Syracuse Speech Mardi Gras on Saturday, February 6. Contributing to team points were the following speechers: Abbey Klein second in Humorous Prose; Katie Veskrna and Katherine Weber third in Duet; Kristen Andersen fourth in Persuasive; Evan Buss, Anna Jurgens, Natalie Lenners, and Amanda Wusk fourth in OID; Shelby Koenig fifth in Extemporaneous; Amanda Wusk and Natalie Lenners fifth in Duet; and Jeff Wallman sixth in Persuasive. Blake Lenners also medaled as the top novice in Informative. With twenty-two schools participating, this was a tough meet. The sweepstakes winner was Omaha Mercy, followed by Waverly with second, D.C. West with third, HTR-S fourth, and Freeman fifth. “The team placed well in early rounds earning many superior ratings and some competitors had personal bests,” said Mrs. Jobman. “Each team member has new goals for the next contest.” A partial team will compete next at the Knights Invitational on Saturday, February 13. Here the team will have an opportunity to see conference opponents HTRS and the host NC Lourdes. Each school provides its own judges at invitational meets. Helping this week were alums of the team: Stephanie Dorn, Dani Eickhoff White, and Megan Milke. Teri Nieveen also judged rounds. The team members also appreciate the support of the parents who travel to the all-day meets.
