Summer Science Camp At Freeman

By Bob Floth

July 02, 2010

Freeman Public School was host to the 2010 Summer Science Camp for Freeman students entering fifth, sixth and seventh grades.

Staff members from Educational Service Unit 5 in Beatrice, area science teachers and Freeman staff members organized and implemented the camp for our students.  Fifty-two Freeman students attended the two day event on June 29th and 30th.

The first day of camp consisted of designing and launching water rockets, designing burglar alarms and methods to break into a groups alarm to snatch candy, making devices for an egg catch, science art, and a bug catch and identification.

The second day of camp included snap circuits, designing aerodynamic remote control cars, calculator robots, crayon physics computer games, and stomp rockets.  The students rotated in groups of approximately twelve students for each activity throughout both days.

Science, math, art, computer and creative thinking skills were put on high demand during the camp in which the students excelled.  Everyone had a great time participating in these two educational days and we all look forward to an exciting 2010-2011 school year.
