Falcons Win In Triple Overtime

The Freeman junior-high football team won their final game of the year as they hosted the Humboldt Table Rock-Steinauer Titans on Thursday, October 6. It took three overtime periods before a winner was determined. The first half saw both teams’ defense play very well. Freeman’s first possession resulted in a Titan interception. The Freeman defense stiffened inside the twenty yard line to turn away the scoring drive. Freeman also drove the ball down the field during the half, but the Titan defense also held the Falcons out of the end zone. The halftime score was 0-0. Most of the third quarter was more of the same as both teams were not able to score against the stingy defenses. Freeman recovered the second half kickoff deep in Titan territory. But, the Falcons were turned away inside the ten yard line. Both teams exchanged punts until late in the quarter; the Titans took the lead on a 33 yard run. The Freeman defense responded to turn away the two-point conversion. The third quarter ended with the Titans leading 6-0. Freeman continued to play strong defense in the fourth quarter. Finally, the Falcons were able to tie the score at 6-6 as Calan Sedlacek ran in from the one yard line with :40 left in the game. Unfortunately, the two-point conversion was denied. Freeman defensive back, Kellen Dorn, intercepted a Titan pass to send the game to overtime. Freeman began the first overtime period with a Sedlacek run of ten yards for a touchdown. Sedlacek found an open Tyler Buhr for the conversion. Freeman now leads 14-6. The Titans responded on their overtime possession scoring on a six yard run. Their two-point conversion was also successful, and the game headed to a second overtime knotted at 14-14. The Titans began the second overtime period scoring on a six yard run. The Freeman defense held and the Titan lead was only six points, 20-14. Freeman took their second overtime possession and scored on a Calan Sedlacek four yard run. The try for two and the victory was stopped at the goal line. The game was tied at 20. On to the third overtime. Freeman again drove toward the end zone on their third overtime possession. This time, Sedlacek found Tyler Buhr for a ten yard touchdown pass. Sedlacek connected with Kellen Dorn for the two-point conversion, and the Freeman lead was now 28-20. Humboldt Table Rock-Steinauer had their opportunity to send the game into a fourth overtime, but a fourth down and five yard play only netted four yards, and the Falcons earned a hard fought 28-20 victory. This was the final junior-high game for Holden Scott, Everett Bloom, Calan Sedlacek, Brannon Renken, Kellen Dorn, Jackson Evers, Jacobson Podtburg, Anthony Springer, Tyler Buhr, and Syb VanNoord. These young men achieved a record of 7 wins and 1 loss during their junior-high career. Congratulations on a very successful season.
