            The Freeman junior high girls basketball team competed in the Freeman Junior High Girls Basketball Tournament on Thursday, January 19, 2012.  The host team finished second in the tournament, losing to a fine Sterling team in the finals.

            Freeman played Johnson Brock to earn a berth to the finals.  The game found Freeman trailing JB 7-6 after the first period.  The first half remained tight until Freeman broke away late in the second period and led at half 19-13.  The Falcons dominated the Eagles in the second half as the outscored their opponent 12-2 in the third quarter and 12-0 in the fourth to post a 43-15 victory.  Emily Lenners and Katie Unvert led Freeman with 10 points each.  Megan Timms was close behind with nine.  Riley Page and Alexis Holland each contributed five.  Emily Klein and Elizabeth Milke scored two apiece.  JB was led by Terra Newman with six.

            In the championship match, Freeman battled Sterling fairly evenly in the first quarter.  However, the Jets took over the game from that point on and led 20-6 at half.  A weak offensive output by the Falcons found them down 28-7 after three periods of play before falling 32-11.  Freeman was led by Alexis Holland’s six points.  Emily Lenners had three.  Katie Unvert added the final two points.  Taylor Cockerill led Sterling with 13 points.  The Falcons record now stands at 2-1.
