The Freeman junior high girls’ basketball team traveled to Cook, Nebraska to take on their counterparts from Johnson County Central in a trio of basketball games on Monday, January 23, 2012.  The session opened with a two-quarter C-team game.  Freeman jumped ahead 2-0 in the first quarter.  They hit a couple of late game buckets to put the game on ice and win that contest 6-4.  Mariha Waters, Taylor Larkins, and Sarah Buehler did the scoring for Freeman.  Courtney Klaasmeyer led JCC with two.

The Falcon defense clicked in the 7th grade game.  The Locals led 12-0 and 21-0 after the first two periods.  Freeman outscored the Thunderbirds 11-2 in the third and went on to post a 36-2 victory to increase their record to 1-1.  Eight Falcons scored in this contest with Lauren Parde leading the way with 14 points.  Kaitlyn Meints added eight more.  Sarah Buehler put in two two-pointers and Hannah Schoen contributed three points.  Also hitting field goals were Marissa Waters, Haleigh Gertsch, and Caty Weber.  Taylor Larkins tossed in a free throw.  Courtney Klaasmeyer hit the field goal for the Thunderbirds.

The Freeman 8th grade battled the JCC A-team to a hard fought 6-2 lead in the first quarter.  However, the Falcons began clicking in the second period and pulled up 16-2 by half.  A defensive battle by both teams in the third led to an exciting scoreless period.  This was enough to allow the Falcons to escape with a 20-4 win.  Four Freeman women led the scoring by hitting four points each:  Katelyn Unvert, Riley Page, Megan Timms, Emily Lenners, and Alexis Holland.  Missy Aldana led JCC with a field goal.

The Falcons will take a 3-1 record into their next game against Humboldt-Table Rock-Steinauer.
