Freeman FFA Attends District Leadership Skills Events

Wallman, Klein, Hottovy, Demo Qualify for State

January 25, 2012

The Freeman FFA Chapter attended the district Leadership Skills Events at Southeast Community College-Beatrice campus on January 24th.  Jeffrey Wallman, who presented a speech on Transgenic Animals, placed first in Senior Public Speaking and qualified for the State FFA Convention in April.

Blake Lenners, who gave a speech over the Impact of the EPA, received a blue ribbon in Senior Public Speaking, and Anna Harder speaking over the Missouri River Flooding Crisis, received a red ribbon in Senior Public Speaking.

Junior Public Speaking had two contestants from Freeman. Claire Richardson received a blue ribbon on her speech regarding Child Labor Laws in Agriculture, and Matt Ideus received a red ribbon on his speech about Glyphosate Resistance in Weeds.

Abbey earned first purple in Cooperative Speaking, solidifying her seat at the State competition.

Lindsay also earned her a spot at the State FFA Convention in Natural Resources Speaking, with a speech about the preservation of the Salt Creek Tiger Beetle.

The extemporaneous speaking challenge was taken by Austin Ruskamp earning a blue ribbon on the subject of Social Media in Agriculture and Jonathan Neil, receiving a red ribbon on the subject of the Humane Society of the United States.

Carley Remmers and Isaac Frerichs both participated in the Creed Speaking event and both received blue ribbons.

Morgan Lenners and Kendall Renken both participated in the Job Interview event, where they completed a job application, cover letter, and resume; complete an interview; and write a follow-up letter to the interview. Morgan received a blue ribbon, and Kendall received a red ribbon.

Five junior high quiz bowl teams competed and the highest ranking team received 2nd place.  The quiz bowl members are Gabe VanEngen, Jackson Evers, Kyle Otto, Alexis Holland, Caleb Eisenbarth, Emily Klein, Evan DeBoer, Everett Bloom, Jacobson Podtburg, Kylie Lawson, Mariah Waters, Megan Timms, Miranda Zeman, Rachel Page, Riley Page, Talor Buhr, and Tyler Buhr

“The group as a whole did a great job today,” said Mr. Jensen, FFA advisor.  “Even those that ended up with blue and red ribbons became better speakers and really worked hard in preparation for districts.  I am proud of each of their efforts.”
