The Freeman 7th grade basketball teams hosted Lewiston for a pair of games on Wednesday, January 25, 2012. Both the A-team and the B-team games were thrillers that came down to the last minute of play. The A-team jumped out to a 7-3 first quarter lead. However, the Tigers came back and pulled to within one at half at 12-11. Lewiston dominated the third period, shutting out the Falcons and pulling ahead 16-12. Freeman battled back to tie the game at 16-16 until a Falcon field goal with under a minute left put them ahead 18-16. Lewiston was able to add one more free throw to make the score 18-17 as the buzzer sounded. Lauren Parde led Freeman with 10 points. Tori Buhr and Hannah Schoen added three each with Haleigh Gertsch scoring two. L. Jasa led Lewiston with five points. The seventh grade now has a 2-1 record.
In B-team competition, Freeman owned a 6-2 lead after the first quarter. By half, the score was 6-5. Due to time concerns, the third quarter was the final quarter. Each team score two to make the final score 8-7 in favor of the Falcons. Mariha Waters led Freeman with four points. Haleigh Gertsch and Sam Pella each added two. B. Morris led Lewiston with four.
The next action for the Falcons will be against the HTRS Titans, a JB Libal coached team.
