Freeman Writing Assessment

Story image 1_0

In the past, Nebraska has had a state writing test at the benchmark grades of 4, 8, and 11. This year the state is incorporating writing into the new English Language Arts assessment which is part of the NeSA testing we will be doing this spring; there is no longer a formal state writing test. However, juniors will have a writing test as part of the ACT test on April 19.

Previously, along with the state writing test, Freeman would have a district writing test for the non-benchmark grades. Freeman Public Schools will now administer a district writing assessment to all students in 2nd through 10th grades. Because we believe writing is an important skill and is to be emphasized at all grade levels and in all curricular areas, writing will continue to be assessed at Freeman.

Our district will administer this writing assessment on February 20th and 21st for forty minutes each day. Students will write a response to a prompt over the two days. The responses will be scored by a committee of teachers from Freeman. Writing is an important skill for all students to have and this is one way we emphasize its importance.
