Pioneer Day in 4th Grade

On February 24th, the Freeman 4th graders, hosted a Pioneer School Day right here at school. During our day back in time, we recited poems the students had memorized, played a pioneer game of stickball for recess, practiced math facts on slates, and had a spelling bee. The most exciting part of our day was when we experienced a Shoebox Social. We read a book explaining that this was a common practice when schools needed to have a fundraiser. We had the 4th grade girls, bring a decorated shoebox with a snack inside ready to share with a boy classmate. Instead of auctioning off their box, we had the boys draw a number and guess what girl he was about to eat his snack with. It was a day filled with a lot of fun, excitement, and learning!
