Illustrator Ralph Masiello Visits Freeman

Have you ever looked at a book and felt in awe of the beautiful illustrations? Freeman elementary students were in awe on March 30th as they watched illustrator Ralph Masiello draw picture after picture as he talked to them. Masiello has been speaking at schools since 1987, and knows how to keep his audience engaged. Both students and adults were intrigued as Masiello kept his talk moving and kept the drawings flowing. Most fascinating was how he talked as he drew, pointing out that drawings are made of simple shapes, such as an upside down “u” or backwards “c”.

Masiello is an artist who began illustrating children’s books with author Jerry Pallotta (a guest of Freeman in October 2015). After collaborating on several books, Masiello began his own series of “how to draw” books. Masiello is entertaining and informative as he speaks to students. He drew enough pictures so that each classroom could have a picture, and designed a bookmark just for Freeman students. Masiello’s visit was funded by Freeman Public Schools and the Freeman Education Association.
