The FBLA chapter of Freeman Public Schools and Adams State Bank are partnering to bring an educational bank branch to Freeman Public Schools in 2018. In this “Bank In School” program elementary students will have the opportunity to open their own savings accounts and make regular deposits throughout their elementary career. At the completion of 6th grade, the students will receive a check for the amount saved.

The Freeman FBLA chapter saw a need to create an understanding of the importance of financial values and establishing a savings routine at a young age. While working closely with Adams State Bank, Freeman FBLA students will be trained to work as tellers for the bank, providing an opportunity to gain experience in banking to better prepare them for a future in business.  Starting in January, the bank will be open every Tuesday morning at Freeman Public Schools throughout the school year.  Students in grades 1-6 will be able to make deposits and earn prizes based on when they achieve set savings goals.

“We were thrilled to be asked to collaborate with the Freeman FBLA to get this program off the ground,” said Jenny Lempka, Director of Marketing at Adams State Bank.  “You are never too young to start saving, and we are excited to teach students those valuable lessons by bringing the bank to them at school!”
