Cheerleaders Prep For '10-'11 Year

Kristine Adams

August 25, 2010

GO FALCONS! The primary purpose of a cheerleader is to support athletic programs and lead the crowd before and during games. Cheerleaders play an instrumental role in raising, leading and maintaining school spirit in and around their communities. In short, they are leaders in building general morale at their school!

The FHS Team consisting of Brittany Bohlmeyer, Courtney Buhr, Madeline Clark, Sierra Eisenbarth, CJ Helmink, Chelsea Jurgens, Nicole O’Grady, Kendall Renken, and Mackenzie Ruskamp attended a Universal Cheerleaders Association (UCA) Camp in Omaha August 8-11, 2010 along with 85 other girls. The team had three days of instruction, and was judged, in several areas.

FHS won a Superior ribbon and First Place trophy in the category of Fight Song, a Superior ribbon and trophy for Most Improved Team and several other ribbons for each day’s cheers and dance that were judged.

Many of us have seen the movie “Pay it Forward”, where a young boy played by Haley Joel Osment does a good deed for someone who in return does something nice for someone else. Courtney Buhr, along with three other girls, received recognition from UCA’s “Pin it Forward” program while at UCA camp. Courtney was chosen for demonstrating leadership, commitment to excellence, kindness and motivation to her fellow campers. She, along with the other three girls, “Pinned it Forward”, and at the end of camp there were six ladies who were honored.

Courtney Buhr, Madeline Clark, Kendall Renken, and Mackenzie Ruskamp each competed for the privilege of being named an UCA All-American Cheerleader (only 10% of each camp is selected) on the third day of camp. Each candidate performed the Xtreme dance routine, a camp cheer, and a jump.

The team was very proud of all the girls who competed for this honor. Congratulations go to Courtney Buhr as she received All-American honors! She has the opportunity to perform in the London Parade over New Year’s.
