Freeman Public Schools receives federal funds for a Title I targeted assistance reading program. Title I reading services are offered for those students who will benefit from extra reading instruction. Title I Reading is scheduled for 20-30 minutes daily, Monday through Thursday. During this time, emphasis is placed on the Big 5 of Reading:
Phonemic Awareness (the hearing of sounds)
Phonics (letter to sound matching)
Vocabulary (recognizing and understanding words)
Reading Fluency (reading at a comfortable rate)
Comprehension (understanding what is read)
Participating students receive Title I services in addition to regular classroom instruction, allowing them to benefit from additional interventions in reading. We regularly monitor progress and adjust instruction accordingly.
